The Self Employment Program

The Self Employment Program (SE Program) is designed to assist unemployed Manitobans to create jobs for themselves by providing them with the skills and supports necessary to start their own business.  The program is funded and administered by Manitoba Competitiveness Training & Trade (MCTT) and Employment Manitoba (EM).  Community Futures East Interlake (CFEI) has been selected as the service provider for the CFEI region to deliver the program.

To be eligible for the SE Program, you must be legally entitled to work in Canada, have a viable business idea and meet one of the following criteria:

·         Be unemployed and

o   Receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits, or

o      Have had an EI claim that ended within the past 36 months, or

o     Have had a maternity or parental claim that started within the previous 60 months.

·         Job threatened and eligible for EI.

For more information on the SE Program contact Jim Park at 378-5106 ext. 2.

The Lemonade Stand Game

Aboriginal Business Service Network

Aboriginal Youth Capacity Building Project

Community Futures East Interlake is pleased to announce that it has received funding from the Aboriginal Business Service Network for an Aboriginal Youth Capacity Building Project.  CFEI will use this funding to introduce "The Lemonade Stand Game" in two local schools.  The game teaches the students about marketing and how to start a business and will be implemented with high school students at Riverton Collegiate Institute and Charles Sinclair School.  The students will be broken up into teams and must decide how to market lemonade to a panel of independent judges from their community.  The winning teams will receive cash prizes.

For more information on The Lemonade Stand Game, contact Jim Park at 378-5106 ext. 2.

Strategic Planning - Why bother - we know what we want.

One of the many services we provide to groups in the CFEI region is strategic planning assistance.  This assistance can range from a quick survey for your members to establish a clear sense of direction to a few hours of facilitation with a group to discuss ongoing projects / issues to a more complex daylong or a series of shorter sessions that would produce a comprehensive plan for an organization.

Many people are scared off by the thought of participating in a strategic planning session or think it is far too much work for what their organization is involved with. It can be a scary concept and overwhelming at first but CFEI is here to help and assist your group at every step through the process.  It is also a good way to get our organization involved with your organization because once we know what you are trying to do it will be easier for us to provide assistance with projects.

In a nutshell , strategic planning is setting direction for a project, looking at what resources you have available, making decisions on how best to use those resources, and setting guidelines for when and who will do the work.  Just like any good cake has a recipe that you follow, any successful worthwhile project should have a plan to guide it.
